TERRY TAYLOR in CONCERT

12 Mid-night, Encore-I Tent

Cornerstone Festival , July 2nd, 1998

With great anticipation may wife Diane and I made the trek from my campsite to the Encore-I tent, arriving at 11:00. We arrived early enough to assure us a spot down front, center stage. Kevin Shafer was already there as were several other DADL members, and we had a great time talking and anticipating the evenings concert.

The rumor was that there would be 28 songs performed. Video cameras were set up, I had both my Nikons loaded, (one with flash and one without), Diane had pen and note book in hand to keep track of the songs and to record the words of wisdom from Terry.

The evening began with a recorded version of "What a friend we have in Jesus", as Terry and company took the stage. When he first note of the evening was hit, distortion and bass feedback erupted. Tim's Galen Kruger bass head had fried during soundcheck, and a second GK brought onto stage. Know one had switch amps, so with Steve's help, Tim got the GK bass head up and going.
Then the music began...

Terry had a new look for the fest; sweat pants, flannel shirt and cowboy hat,Terry's new look...
Was this the hat I had sent back to Tom @ STUNT records the year before, after my dad found a box of cowboy hats following the Lost Dogs on mainstage in 1996?

Terry said he was getting back to his roots, and perhaps we would of all been better off if we had never left them. Was he talking about our first love?

Derri and his little 12-String guitarThe band for the evening was a repeat of last years "Friends". DA members Ed McTaggart on drums and backing vocals, and Tim Chandler on bass (still the best bass player in the universe).
Andy Pickett (Prayer Chain), again covered all the DA guitar leads flawlessly and Wayne Everrett (also of Prayer Chain) joined Steve Phil played smok'en slide guitarHindenlong (The Choir) on percussion.

Derri Daugherty (Lost Dogs & Choir) switched between his mini-12 string and accoustic guitar.

Phil Madeira played excellant lap slide guitar, as well as his famous poka box.

It would of been hard to find a better band than this, anywhere on the Fest grounds.

Ricki was no where to be found, so Terry invited audience members to come on stage and sing and spin.
Terry and company left the stage following "Lets Spin".
But we being true Da fans, called them back for the Encore....

    The ENCORE songs were:
  • The Pool,
  • I Love You #9
  • Sanctuary (My favorite Da song)
  • (I Want A) New Car!

  • As last year, during the ending notes of "New Car", Tim managed to knock Steve down for another near "DA dog pile"! Steve, you've got to learn to keep at arms distance from Tim!
Andy played ear splitting feedback on his guitar, then dropped it and left the stage.
Steve jumped off stage with a big drum, and lead the audience in a Mambo line around the tent. Wayne stayed on stage providing the back beat.

We were not done yet, after clapping and whisteling, Terry brought the boys back out for one more song. What would Terry do, he announced he had just played all the 200 songs he knew and they had used all of the chords they knew as well

    I Love to go, a wan-der-ing....

The evening ended with an all to typical last Encore of Terry and his "choir" of the bewildered looking members of the band singing "I Love to Go A Wandering" with Terry leading with great gusto.

ere is the very first photo I ever took of Daniel Amos. It was in April of 1980, at a Festival called AGAPE Festival in Southern Illinois; This was during the Horrendous Disc Tour. The photo is very poor quality as it is from a very old slide, and the stage lighting was strings of light bulbs hung across the top of the stage. But even with the poor quality, it is still a fun photo as you can see, Terry and Jerry, and I think Mark Cook on keyboards. Help me if you know for sure who was playing the keyboards on this concert tour.
